The Bioinformatics, BioPharma team at Guardant Health is focused on partnerships with leading biotech and pharma companies who are at the forefront of cancer therapeutics and diagnostics. In this role, you will help lead the bioinformatics and data analysis in support of the late-stage oncology products and other emerging technologies. You will work with a number of BioPharma and clinical customers, tailor personalized analyses for each organization, and tackle some of the most interesting biological and technical questions related to cancer diagnostics and therapy selection.

You will contribute to BioPharma project initiatives in-house, including development of novel bioinformatic and analytical methods. As a part of the Bioinformatics and BioPharma teams, you will have the opportunity to innovate and implement your ideas to continuously improve our oncology products and analytics to adapt to the changing landscape of BioPharma needs.

You will work closely with multiple teams across Guardant Health, including Bioinformatics, Medical Affairs, Software, Business Development, Technology Development, and Operations. You will gain first-hand experience working with experts in each of these areas to accomplish projects related to Guardant Health's BioPharma business. You will work together with our collaborators in industry, hospitals and academia on high-impact translational research and publish on your findings. You will have access to the unprecedented compendium of data collected at Guardant Health and you will be able to (and should be excited to!) leverage this data for tumor biology and technological insights.

About the Role:

The Bioinformatics Scientist II will join an interdisciplinary team working with an unprecedented set of clinical DNA sequence data and multiple epigenetic data types produced by novel R&D pipelines at Guardant Health. The scope of this project provides unique opportunities for developing and learning novel analytical methods for DNA sequencing data, including cell-free DNA-based genomic and methylation data integrated with epigenetic data sets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with large, complex data sets. Tend to non-routine analysis problems, applying deep epigenetic knowledge to conduct end-to-end analysis of epigenetic cell-free nucleic acid NGS data.
  • Development, continuous improvement, and validation of biomarkers for Guardant Health oncology products.
  • Develop or apply statistical methods and procedures to evaluate and validate Guardant Health technologies.
  • Work with the Technology Development team to develop and analyze verification and validation experiments as part of regulatory submissions.
  • Provide analytic support on individual samples and research activities.
  • Develop scripts for research and development activities and leverage cutting edge methods to continuously improve efficiency.
  • Communicate research results through presentations and project reports as well as scientific publications.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computational biology, Genomics, or related quantitative fields and a minimum of 2-5 years related experience; may include post-doctoral experience.
  • Deep understanding of library preparation methods used to generate next-generation sequencing data, including whole-genome and methylation sequencing, targeted sequencing, and RNA-seq
  • Demonstrated experience in developing methods for analysis of experimental data in genomics and next-generation sequencing, under the context of product development
  • Strong knowledge of statistics and computational biology algorithms for genomic analysis (including statistical methods employed in analytical validation) and cancer genomics (alignment, variant calling, general multivariate statistical inference)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to foster a highly collaborative environment, working with both experimental and computational scientists

Must have:

  • 2+ years of variant calling experience

Hybrid Work Model: This section is applicable to onsite employees who are eligible for hybrid work location as specified by management and related policies. Guardant has defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. This range does not include benefits or, if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. Each candidate's compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, education, job-related skills, job duties, and business need.Primary Location: Palo Alto, CAPrimary Location Base Pay Range: $141,500 - $194,600Other US Location(s) Base Pay Range: $120,300 - $165,450If the role is performed in Colorado, the pay range for this job is: $127,400 - $175,150
