Description
The Dialysis Program is a Medicare-approved facility for treatment of chronic kidney failure in children younger than 18 years of age. Patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) receive hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis treatments in both inpatient and outpatient settings as needed.
In a setting specifically designed for young patients, our specially trained nurses provide:Our nurses are members of the American Nephrology Nurses Association, which demands the highest standards in patient care and knowledge of the latest advances in treatments and therapies. Several nurses achieve additional certifications of either CDN (Certified Dialysis Nurse) or CNN (Certified Nephrology Nurse). Moreover, as nurses at Children’s National, they have an intuitive understanding of the needs of children and their families.
In addition, our dialysis unit coordinates dialysis care for children with acute or sudden onset of kidney failure in the Heart and Kidney Unit (HKU) or Intensive Care Units (PICU, CICU, NICU). Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) also is available for patients with acute renal failure, including those on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation.Position Summary: Shift Coordinator
All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. CNMC supports the development of RN relationships within the community; specifically, those relationships associated with the health and wellbeing of the community at large. The Shift Coordinator, on a shift-to-shift basis, directs the activities of and/or participates as a member of the patient care delivery team. In collaboration with unit leadership, participates in planning, managing and evaluating unit based clinical care and ensuring that continuity of care is maintained.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree (Required)
1 year of recent pediatric experience in a comparable setting. (Required)
