Junior Assistant Purser – Japanese Speaking  

Position Summary

We are looking for a friendly, guest-focused Japanese speaking Junior Assistant Purser Japanese to join the Guest Services team onboard a five star cruise ship. This role plays a vital part in supporting Japanese-speaking guests by delivering exceptional service, clear communication, and cultural understanding. You’ll be a visible, welcoming presence at the Guest Services desk, resolving queries, assisting with onboard information, and ensuring a seamless guest experience in both Japanese and English.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong hospitality experience, bilingual communication skills, and a passion for working at sea.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and professional assistance to Japanese-speaking passengers and support the wider Guest Services team.
  • Hold visible Guest Services desk hours to answer general inquiries and socialize with passengers.
  • Resolve guest complaints empathetically and follow up personally to ensure satisfaction.
  • Translate documents and assist in communication between departments and Japanese-speaking guests.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the Passenger in Focus system and keep supervisors informed.
  • Represent the company’s core values with professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and service excellence.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a guest-facing front desk or reception role in a 4 or 5-star hotel, resort, or cruise ship.
  • Fluent in Japanese and English (spoken and written).
  • Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, and standard online tools.
  • Friendly and caring communicator with a proactive service mindset.
  • Able to adapt to a multicultural environment and remain calm under pressure.
  • Graduate of a hotel or business school (preferred).

Contract Details

  • 6:2 (Rolling contracts of 6 consecutive months onboard the ship, followed by 2 months of vacation).
  • Shared cabin accommodation
